âMaybe sunscreen should be packed next time.â
Delilah stared at Camâs broad, bare shoulders in the reflection of the mirror. The en suite bath was something from a magazine. The spacious room could have been plucked straight from her mind. Every single thing in here was exactly her taste from the freestanding bathtub inside the monstrous shower to the chandelier over the makeup vanity area to the white chaise in front of the massive walk-in closet.
âIâd take a little sunburn if it meant spending the day with you like we did.â His eyes met hers in the mirror. âI wouldnât change a thing.â
Yeah, she wouldnât, either. The lovemaking, the picnic, playing in the water...there was so much that had happened. So many memories had been made in just this first day. Sheâd certainly seen a different side of Camden, and he hadnât mentioned his cell or his work one time. He truly seemed at peace and completely comfortable decompressing.
While she on the other hand had a mountain of anxiety coursing through her. All of the what-ifs kept bumping into one another inside her head.
What if she tried to go back and things worked out? What if they didnât? What if today was a glimpse into the future they could have? But what if it was just a temporary thing?
No matter what question popped into her head, another one came right on the coattails to counteract it.
Why couldnât he have done all of this before? Because doing it all now almost made her wonder if he was just afraid of failing or if he actually loved her.
Before she could say anything, her cell chimed from the bedroom. She hesitated, but Camden smiled.
âWe never said you couldnât answer your phone,â he joked.
Delilah laughed as she went through to the bedroom. Sheâd left her cell charging on one of the nightstands and spotted Saraâs name on the screen. She waited, wondering if she should answer or just let it go to voice mail. After losing Milly, she usually answered everything, but now, well, she didnât want to get into a conversation about where she was or who she was with.
âArenât you going to answer that?â
Delilah glanced over her shoulder at Camden, who stood in the wide doorway wearing nothing but a towel. Her eyes raked down his bare chest and to the knot securing the towel he held at his side.
âIâm thinking,â she replied. âAre you getting in the shower?â
âIf you keep looking at me like that, I wonât make it to the shower.â
Her eyes darted back up to his and the ringing finally stopped. The silence surrounded them, the sexual tension enveloped them.
âWho are you dodging?â he asked.
âSara.â
He nodded and, without a word, he released the towel. The white terry pooled around his feet as he simply continued to stare and smirk her way. That man knew what he was doing. He knew sheâd never been able to turn down his advances. Thatâs precisely why sheâd fled the back room at the Angelâs Share gala when heâd kissed her.
